5 Water Damage Misconceptions

9/11/2022 (Permalink)

Water floods property

Water damage can strike at any time from a variety of different sources. Many people who find their property facing water damage do not fully understand what it means for their property going forward, and how to fully address the problem before damages worsen.

It’s water, it will dry.

Water is extremely invasive and can seep into areas of your property that are much harder to get to, if not properly taken care of. When you choose not to use professional drying and cleanup services, you are choosing the likely outcome of severe structural damages and extensive mold posing a health hazard.

Once we get rid of the water, everything is normal again!

Unfortunately, once you get rid of the water you are still forced to assess damages to the structure of the property, furniture and belongings, and any new sources of hazard or health hazards throughout the property. Then you must make a plan to sanitize the property and deeply disinfect to make sure you are preventing any other problems from arising.

I can see all of the damage.

Water damage always goes beyond what you see. Water spreads so quickly and easily that it can go into walls and trap moisture creating a conducive environment for mold spores and intense odors.

The smell will go away on its own.

It does not take long at all for mold to begin to grow.  Once this process begins, the odor becomes very difficult to eliminate. Because mold is a type of fungus, it gives off a strong, sometimes unbearable smell. Mold and other strong odors require professional treatment for removal through a dehumidification process and antimicrobial treatment.

It’s okay if cleanup and remediation are delayed

For a number of reasons, an immediate response to property flooding is imperative. At SERVPRO of Fontana, we are “faster to any disaster” with the training and equipment necessary to get your property back at its best as quickly as possible.
